EV FAQ

EV Charging Station

Everywhere you look nowadays, you will see new electric car options popping up. The future will be filled with EVs, so now is the time to get to know them. Our team here at Patriot Chevy Warminster is dedicated to demystifying electric cars so you can understand their benefits and the lingo that comes along with them.

How Are EVs Different from Hybrids?

Our inventory of new Chevy vehicles has both hybrids and electric vehicles like the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. Both hybrids and EVs have a lower environmental impact than cars that run on gasoline alone, but hybrids and EVs are not the same.

Hybrid vehicles get their power from both an electric motor and a gasoline engine. On the other hand, electric vehicles do not have any gasoline engine and generate power using only an electric motor. Hybrid vehicles offer flexibility if you need to fuel up with gas sometimes, but electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions.

Where Can I Charge My EV?

You can charge your electric vehicle at home or at a public charging station. Home charging stations either use the cord that comes with your vehicle or an installed charging port. Public charging stations operate similarly to your at-home charging station but sometimes have extra powerful option called Level 3 or DC Fast charging.

There are three main levels of EV charging that differ in voltage and length of time needed for a full charge: Level 1 charging, Level 2 charging, and DC Fast charging.

What Is Level 1 Charging?

Level 1 charging may be on the slower side, but it is a convenient option especially if you do not have a nearby public charging station. Level 1 charging uses a standard 120-volt outlet and the charging cord that comes with your EV.

With Level 1 charging, you can reach a nearly full over a day or two. This works great for people who drive a short distance on a daily basis for commuting and errands.

What Is Level 2 Charging?

Level 2 charging uses 240 volts to charge your EV in about eight hours.

What Is Level 3 or DC Fast Charging?

Level 3 or DC Fast charging, the fastest charging available, gives a full charge in under one hour.

Now that you know all about electric cars, we invite you to schedule a Chevy EV test drive with us to experience the EVs Chevy has to offer.
